Mountain Out privacy policy

Mountain Out is made by Nebula Colors LLC. Contact: support@nebulacolors.com.

The short version. No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking. We don't run a server for this app and we don't receive anything from it.

Your location. If you tap "From where you are", the app asks for your location while it's open, only to draw your own view and to check whether a hill is in the way. Your location is not saved by us and not sent to us. The app keeps nothing beyond the place you last picked, on your phone.

What goes to other services. The app talks to two outside services, and neither is ours:

  • Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) for the weather forecast (and air quality). Open-Meteo builds its forecasts from national weather services, including MET Norway. It receives a point rounded to about 1 km, like any web request, plus your phone's IP address, which any internet request carries.
  • AWS Terrain Tiles (Amazon S3, built on USGS and other data) for the ground around your own spot. The request asks for map tiles of an area about 13 by 14 km around you, so that service can tell roughly where you are. The four built-in viewpoints use the same tiles for fixed places.

Those services have their own privacy policies. We don't send them anything else.

On your phone. The app saves your settings on the phone (the place and mountain you last looked at, and whether you've seen the first-run tips). It's removed when you uninstall.

Notices. "Tell me" sets one notice on your phone, at a time the forecast gives. It's scheduled on the phone itself. Nothing is sent from a server. You can turn it off in the app or in Android settings.

Sharing. The Share button opens your phone's own share sheet with a picture of your screen and one line. You choose where it goes. We never see it.

Children. The app collects nothing from anyone, so it collects nothing from children.

Changes. If this changes, the new text goes on this page, with the date.
